Waktudokei by Eddy Zain
Waktudokei by Eddy Zain
Waktudokei is a conceptual piece inspired by The Persistence of Memory by Salvador Dalí, 1931. Waktudoktei comes from the words waktu and wadokei from which, the former means "time" in Bahasa Indonesia while the latter is a traditional Japanese clock. The subject matter of the concept is a cultural mix between Japanese and Indonesian elements, as depicted, the wadokei. However it is constructed with batik imprinted wood alongside the keris and its sheath which are prominently featured in the Indonesian culture. The artist's relationship with the piece is very personal such that the two cultures embody a melting timeworn timepiece.
