To Spite My Face by Jaeyyelle
To Spite My Face by Jaeyyelle

This piece reflects the artist’s internal struggle to grow into a calmer, more accountable version of herself. The phrase “I cut off my nose to spite my face” captures the self-sabotaging nature of asserting one’s will, only to suffer a greater loss—something the artist admits to having done in the past to her own detriment.
Quoting Taylor Swift, “then hate my reflection for years and years,” the work lingers in a space of unresolved regret. It sits with the weight of past choices and the realisation that much of it stemmed from ego and vanity. The piece dwells in the discomfort of looking inward and confronting one’s own reflection.
Please note: Framed Exhibition Edition 1 of 1 artwork can only be delivered within Singapore. As the artwork is currently being exhibited, it will only be delivered after the 'Melting Thresholds' exhibition ends on 14 Sept 2025. Please only purchase if you are agreeable to the above conditions.
