Jan van Eyck's The Arnolfini Portrait captures an intimate moment as a couple establish themselves in society. Despite its medieval origins, the painting echoes how modern couples blend heritage with their own desires and subvert societal norms. In Anna's ballpoint pen artwork, a Chinese tea ceremony symbolises unification; set amidst a surreal space adorned with orchids—a motif representing growth and transformation—that is wholeheartedly embraced and welcomed by the couple.

About The Artist

Anna is a Singaporean-Dutch artist from Singapore who works across various artforms in response to a host of stimuli—her surroundings, her memories and the people she encounters. Her works are essentially bred from boredom; a childish need to compose new worlds within the ones we don’t yet comprehend. Her chosen mediums become a conduit for the uncanny, realised through visual storytelling where the boundaries between the real and the fantastical become blurred.
