Small Hours (Day) by Hey Mady!
Small Hours (Day) by Hey Mady!
Inspired by Edward Hopper’s Nighthawks, Mady Marcelino’s Small Hours, by definition, refers to the early morning hours after midnight. Slow and gradual to almost nothing, the once-busy atmosphere quiets down with only a few cars passing by and only a few restless souls wandering around. The hours in between are still and oftentimes, eerie. Yet, it's a companionable solitude for some, a time to be at peace with one’s thoughts or a time to make peace with oneself.
Small Hours depicts a 24-hour lugawan, a common Filipino diner that serves a wide array of cheap comfort food for people from different walks of life - a drunk guy passing by to soothe his hangover, a nurse who just ended their night shift, a taxi driver having his late dinner. Strangers, all on their own sonder, in their own worlds, on their own small hours, never really knowing each other but together in their place of refuge on a quiet and still night to be at peace and to make peace.
