When Ykha was a child, stumbling upon a book of Norman Rockwell's art in her dad's collection felt like discovering hidden treasure. She vividly recalls flipping through those pages, captivated by Rockwell's technique, heartfelt storytelling, and warm humour infused into most of his pieces. His Triple Self Portrait sparked a dream within her—the dream of someday becoming an artist herself.

Today, she embraces that childhood longing by responding to Rockwell's work in her own style, reflecting on her personal creative process and enriched by her adoration and pride for Asian pop culture. She blends his dedication and narrative prowess with a contemporary twist. With every stroke, she pays homage to his legacy while crafting narratives that bridge cultures and generations. Just as Rockwell's art ignited her artistic spark, she aspires to evoke emotions and transcend boundaries through her own visual storytelling.

About the Artist

Ykha Amelz is an Indonesian artist specialising in 2D illustration. Although she majored in and graduated from Architecture school, she decided to pursue her passion for drawing. Since 2008, using graphite, ink, acrylic paint, and digital tools as her media, she has been compiling an impressive portfolio as a freelance illustrator, gaining experience in various fields such as fashion, music, advertising, branding, and even traditional art through her paintings. She has been featured in Harper’s Bazaar, ELLE, ELLE Decoration, L’Officiel, Cosmopolitan, and NYLON, and has won an iD (Indonesia Design) Award in Best Product Designed for her collaboration campaign with Guinness.

Adding to her list of achievements, from 2014–2022 she ran her clothing label, DIBBA (@dibbaofficial), as a Co-Founder and Head of Prints & Design. The brand is well-known for its unique play of vibrant and bold prints.

However, it wasn't until she started doodling her beloved pet, Babbot, that her true calling in art emerged. This reignited her love for cartoons and comics, leading to a significant change in her illustration style. Initially used as a way to deal with work frustrations, her playful characters now entertain and bring joy to everyone. This has resulted in features at local and international exhibitions, a published book, and collaborations with major global brands such as VANS, COACH, Guinness, Netflix, Spotify, and Samsung. Since the beginning of 2019, she has also been one of VANS Indonesia's brand ambassadors for art .

In 2021, Ykha made her NFT debut and her artwork has since evolved. She blends her inner-child nostalgia and chaotic mind into a vibrant universe inhabited by a family of cartoon characters in a cathartic way, stating "I always wanted my art to be able to make the audience smile and feel like a happy kid."
