This piece captures the artist’s experience of friendship in a fleeting yet vivid memory—spring in bloom, the sun setting, and two friends riding a rattling bicycle to the train station in Eindhoven. Zarer, the artist’s friend, was cycling while the artist, unusually quiet, was lost in the moment, taking photos. Concerned, he asked, “You okay?” to which she responded, “Yeah, what’s up?” He replied simply, “Just checking if you’re still behind me.”
It was a small exchange, but one that crystallised the essence of friendship for the artist—care, presence, and the quiet comfort of being seen.
