This piece references Edvard Munch's painting The Scream; the central figure's expression and background composition reminds the artist of the feeling she gets when she's trapped at a busy highway in Kuala Lumpur. The sheer traffic, noise, smell and heat overwhelms her body and soul, and it's a transitional space that most Malaysians have to experience on a daily basis. She questions why this is the reality we are living in.

About the Artist

After completing her Master's in Architecture in London in 2022, ke ai de ke decided to venture into illustration and became a full-time artist. She enjoys drawing a variety of subjects and aims to create pieces that connect with the viewers emotionally. In 2022, her illustration was recognised by the Association of Illustration, and one of her works was longlisted for the World Illustration Award. Occasionally, she would set up booths around Kuala Lumpur, such as TheGodown, GMBB and Ilham Art Gallery, to exhibit and sell her work. Her most recent exhibition is with the Kuala Lumpur Illustration Fair and Riso Art Jam in Penang. Other than illustration, she enjoys planting and walking around the city!
