Raden Saleh is an internationally-known Indonesian painter, who had spent some of his life and was buried in Fivust’s hometown of Bogor, Indonesia. Having studied under European artists, Saleh employed a Western-influenced style of painting.

This piece is based on Saleh’s famous painting The Arrest of Pangeran Diponegoro, which depicts the defeat and capture of Prince Diponegoro for his fight against Dutch colonial rule. Through his reinterpretation, Fivust aims to capture the same notion and spirit of challenging the European art forms that are prevalent across Asia.

About The Artist

Whether on the streets or galleries, Fivust's distinct style of explosive colour tone and mood carries a fun element of surprise.

Fivust admires human being’s spectrum of possibility and flexibility in creating his works. He finds it fascinating that each person has their own alter ego that can be expressed in many ways. Moreover, it develops into something that grows with them from time to time.

Colliding his style with the subject, Fivust puts up a new way of interpretation. Through his playful choice, his works will inflict child-like nostalgia and memories amongst the viewers. Fivust pays homage to the usual, boring, and mundane routine by giving it some spice, fun, and playfulness. Giving it life as it should have.

Using various colours, shapes, lines, and crazy ideas in developing his characters and style on many media and with multiple tools—Fivust works with unstoppable liveliness.
