A Sunday Afternoon at Fort Canning Park by Phoebe Ting
A Sunday Afternoon at Fort Canning Park by Phoebe Ting
Taking inspiration from Georges Seurat's A Sunday Afternoon on the Island of La Grande Jatte, A Sunday Afternoon at Fort Canning Park reimagines the piece in Singapore's context. In 2019, 1 in 5 families employed a maid; this number increased after the pandemic. These domestic helpers would occasionally picnic at public green spaces on their off-days, decked in traditional outfits and sharing their hometown food. This piece aims to highlight the warm community these migrant workers have in Singapore, and how jovial they are on their off-day.
